Comand and Control Switch (CCS4-USB)

Q: We want to use the options port of the Adder CCS4-USB in conjunction with a video matrix RS232 device; however is it true that the options port is only for either a firmware upgrade or an RC4 connection?
A: The options port with the CCS4-USB and the AV4PRO support three methods of switching:
1. RC4
2. RS232 switching with configurable baud rate
3. Dry contact switching
Please refer to the relevant product manual for further information.

Adder View DVI

Q: Noise on video display.
A: Ensure only to use high quality DVI video cables. Reduce graphics card resolution or refresh rate. Use a shorter DVI cable. The maximum cable length should not exceed 5m (15ft).

Q: Mouse moves very slowly but otherwise functions works correctly. (PS/2)
A: Ensure the mouse driver is a Microsoft type mouse.

Q: Mouse does not move cursor on screen. (PS/2)
A: Ensure that the mouse and computer are both connected to AdderView before power is applied and ensure that the AdderView is powered on before the attached computer.
Ensure that your software is configured to accept a Microsoft compatible mouse of the type that you have connected (PS/2 or RS232). If you move the mouse and the activity indicator (dot on 7 segment display) does not flash then the AdderView is not receiving data from the mouse. Check the mouse connection to the AdderView, try resetting the mouse using the reset function or re-powering the AdderView. If you are attempting to connect the AdderView to a CPU with a PS/2 mouse connection that has not been powered down then you will need to use the mouse restoration functions F5 or F6.

Q: Mouse causes channel to change. (PS/2)
A: Some mice are not fully compatible with the AdderView and can lose data causing the channel to be changed (if mouse switching of channels is enabled). If you experience this problem then change the mouse and use a Microsoft, Logitech, IBM, Compaq or Hewlett-Packard type. Ensure that you are using a Microsoft compatible mouse driver on your PC. Some other manufacturers drivers may switch the mouse to use a proprietary mouse data format not supported by the AdderView. If you have unplugged and re-connected a mouse to the AdderView then ensure that you reset it using the mouse reset function.

Q: Mouse jumps around the screen after disconnecting the mouse cable or powering down the AdderView. (PS/2)
A: If you have disconnected and re-connected a CPU mouse cable or you have powered down the AdderView then the mouse data format may be out of synchronization with that required by the PC (PS/2 or Intellimouse). Try the "restore Intellimouse" function (F6) to resolve the problem or re power the CPU.

Q: Keyboard does not function or functions intermittently. Num lock light does not always come on when the num lock key is pressed.
A:Some older keyboards were designed for use with specific computers and are not truly PS/2 compatible. These are not common but if you experience problems try another keyboard.

AdderView CATx 1000

Q: What to do if the ADMIN password has been forgotten.
A: To clear a password (and restore factory default settings). It is important to note that a complete reset erases all the user names and computer names that have been setup:
1. Remove power from the AdderView CATx 1000 unit.
2. Connect the AdderView CATx 1000 unit to a computer in the same manner as you would to carry out a flash upgrade.
3. Press and hold the reset button on the front panel (requires paper clip or similar).
4. Apply power and after 3 seconds release the reset button. The "UPG" LED should now be illuminated.
5. Set the computer serial settings to the following: 57600, n, 8, 1.
6. Using "TeraTerm" (recommended) or an alternative terminal program, send "CLEAR " - in upper or lower case from the keyboard. The AdderView CATx 1000 unit should respond with "OK".
7. The password is now clear and all factory default settings restored.

A: Use screened coaxial video cables to connect your devices to the AdderView Gem.

Q: Mouse does not move cursor on screen.
A: Ensure that the mouse and computer are both connected to AdderView Gem before power is connected and ensure that the AdderView Gem is powered on before the attached computer. Ensure that your software is configured to accept a Microsoft compatible mouse of the type that you have connected (PS/2 or RS232). If you move the mouse and the activity indicator (dot on 7 segment display) does not flash then the AdderView Gem is not receiving data from the mouse. Check the mouse connection to the AdderView Gem, try resetting the mouse using the reset function or re-powering the AdderView Gem. If you are attempting to connect the AdderView Gem to a CPU with a PS/2 mouse connection that has not been powered down then you will need to use the mouse restoration functions F5 or F6.

Q: Keyboard does not function or functions intermittently. Num lock light does not always come on when the num lock key is pressed.
A: Some older keyboards were designed for use with specific computers and are not truly AT or PS/2 compatible. These are not common but if you experience problems try another keyboard.

Q: Mouse causes channel to change.
A: Some mice are not fully compatible with the AdderView Gem and can lose data causing the channel to be changed (if mouse switching of channels is enabled). If you experience this problem then change the mouse and use a Microsoft, Logitech, IBM, Compaq or Hewlett-Packard type. Ensure that you are using a Microsoft compatible mouse driver on your PC. Some other manufacturers’ drivers may switch the mouse to use a proprietary mouse data format not supported by the AdderView Gem. If you have unplugged and re-connected a mouse to the AdderView Gem then ensure that you reset it using the mouse reset function.

Q: Mouse jumps around the screen after disconnecting the mouse cable or powering down theAdderView Gem.

Q: Mouse moves very slowly but otherwise functions correctly.
A: Change the mouse driver to a Microsoft type or click here to see the user guide for the recommended action.

AdderView OSDe

Q:Video appears to be lost after a PC has gone into auto power down mode. Moving the mouse and typing at the keyboard does not wake it up.
A:Some computers tested output an incomplete video signal in auto power down mode. The on-screen menu cannot "lock on" to this signal and so cannot be displayed under these conditions. If the Adder menu is left on the screen and this type of auto power down occurs then the screen becomes blank. Keyboard and mouse data is captured by the menu process and so is not sent to the computer to cause it to wake up. The operation therefore appears to "hang". To restore the video under these conditions press escape, return or change the channel using HOTKEYs + channel number. Alternatively, you may wish to avoid leaving the menu on the screen if you have a PC that exhibits this anomaly.

Q:Mouse consistently fails to boot when using a Compaq integrated keyboard / mouse model MX11800 with the AdderView, Windows NT 4.0 and a PS/2 connection to some types of PCs.
A:There are three possible solutions to this problem:
1) Use a different mouse.
2) Connect the AdderView mouse connection to a serial port on the NT 4.0 unit rather than the PS/2 port.
3) Select channel 0 or a port that is not connected to an NT 4.0 box whilst NT is booting. Use the system normally once the logon screen appears.

AdderView Secure switch

Q: No video from computer.
A: This is most likely to be associated with a mismatch between the host computer's video output and the Display data Channel EDID data held within the AdderView Secure. Computers often need to read the correct DDC EDID data before they will output a video signal. If digital EDID data is presented to a computer's analog video port, a video signal will not be generated. Conversely, if analog EDID data is presented to a computer's digital video port, a video signal will also not be generated. Depending on your DDC connection policy, please refer to "Video display (DDC) information" in the manual for details. Remember that the AdderView Secure will only attempt to read the EDID data from your monitor when the AdderView Secure is first powered on. To ensure that your monitor's EDID data is read and stored correctly, ensure that it is attached and powered on when you switch on the AdderView Secure.

Q: Video from some computers only.
A: Remember that the AdderView Secure does not convert digital video signals to analog signals and vice versa so it is not generally possible to mix digital and analog inputs. Mixed systems are possible in certain special circumstances but these will require specialist assistance from Adder technical support.

AdderView PRO range

Q: What type of HID devices are supported with USB True emulation
A: USB True emulation is a technology that emulates the exact device attached to the switch. Generic emulation on the other hand describes the keyboard and mouse in generic terms - presenting the attched computer with a very standard description of the HID peripheral. True Emulation, by describing the exact device attached gives you the benefit of additional features your HID device may support, such as hot keys, scroll wheels, additional buttons etc. In effect, this also means the switch will work with many non standard types of HID such as 3D explorers, joysticks, graphics tablets and so on. At present, the PRO range supports USB2.0 low speed HID devices.
The two enumerated/switched ports on the device will support USB2.0 low, full and hi speed device.

AdderView 4PRO DVI

Q: I am using a medical imaging monitor and get no video through the switch.
A: Medical Imaging monitors support DDC/CI protocol this means that they use the DDC pins to constantly communicate with the graphics card. This DDC/CI needs to be enabled on the switch.
To enable/disable Hybrid DDC feature
1 Enter the Configuration menu.
2 Press to enter the User Preferences menu and then press either:
to Enable Hybrid DDC
to Disable Hybrid DDC
3 Press to accept the setting and return to the main menu section.
4 Press and then to exit the menu and save changes.

Q: What devices can be connected into the keyboard and mouse ports of the AV4PRO?
A:The emulated ports will support up to two devices only (so if you are using an extender with four ports only two of these will work) also some keyboards have a built in hub with a separate keypad or display attached to this hub, for example the Logitech G15. This means that either the keyboard and display will work; but not the mouse or the mouse and keyboard will work but not the display. The only USB devices that can be used are HID (Human Interface Devices) keyboards and mice and CCID (smart card readers) so a keyboard with a built in card reader can be supported. Please note you cannot attach other USB devices like a touch screen, scanner or USB stick to the keyboard and mouse ports.
